Will the iPad steal the iPhone’s Thunder This Summer?

February 23, 2010 Leave a comment
This summer we are going to see the launch of the iPad (with 3G) and presumably another iPhone. This has me thinking about a few things and I wanted to post some thoughts and hopefully get some feedback from our readers/listeners.
My first initial thought was that we wouldn’t see any new hardware for the iPhone this summer and most of the magic come from software. For one, other than a bigger and better screen, what else could they pack into the iPhone? We won’t see LTE devices for at least another year or even two, so a 4G iPhone is out of the question. Some have said maybe a front facing camera, and while I can see the “cool” factor, I just don’t see it catching on here in the U.S. quite yet.
Another thing to consider is the strong demand for the iPad. Will Apple want to launch the iPhone in a similar time frame? I know Apple is pitching these devices as filling two different markets, but let’s be real, the iPad (as of right now) is just a big iPhone/iPod Touch. With the monthly data cost being the same as an iPhone, but with no contract, will people still want to jump ship from another carrier and get an iPhone? I see them launching these two products at the same time, you are asking most consumers to choose. With a base price of $500 for an iPad and $200 for an iPhone, that is a lot of money for a consumer to spend in a summer.

Knowing Apple, they will launch them side by side seeing as they are going after two different segments of the market. So my question to our readers/listeners, is if they launch both the iPad and the iPhone at the same time or within a month or two of each other, will you buy both, just one, or neither? Leave us some comments below, or hit us up on Twitter.

Apple: You can’t use the word “Android” in app description

February 5, 2010 1 comment

This is getting out of hand! Android Community just posted about a developer that was asked to remove the word  “Android” from his app description. Feeling a little bit pissy are we Apple? Full description below:

“Dear Flash of Genius, LLC,
Thank you for submitting Flash of Genius: SAT Vocab 2.2 to the App Store. During our review of your application, we found that your application contains inappropriate or irrelevant platform information in the Application Description and/or Release Notes sections.
Providing future platform compatibility plans or other general platform references are not relevant in the context of the iPhone App Store. While your application has not been rejected, it would be appropriate to remove “Finalist in Google’s Android Developer’s Challenge!” from the Application Description.
Please log into iTunes Connect to make appropriate changes to the Application Description now to avoid an interruption in the availability of Flash of Genius: SAT Vocab 2.2 on the iPhone App Store.
Regards,
iPhone Developer Program”

Google Voice Web App Available for iPhone and webOS

January 26, 2010 1 comment

If you are a Google Voice  user and own an iPhone, you have pretty much been screwed lately. All the Google Voice apps have been pulled from the app store, andApple in their infinite wisdom, denied the official app form Google.

WebOS users at least have a pretty good app to use. Now users of both platforms can access Google Voice from their browsers with a very nice webapp. The webapp offers you all for the features the full Google Voice site does.  You can text, call, and even search through your contacts list. It is actually quite impressive for a webapp. Stay tuned for a full review pretty soon.

Bing to Replace Google on iPhone?

January 20, 2010 Leave a comment

It is being reported by Business week that Apple and Microsoft are now in talks to make Bing the default search engine for the iPhone. Right now, when you search on the iPhone, the default is google. Something that some people might not even realize. Use of the mobile web is exploding and having Bing as the default on the 30 + million iPhones floating around is sure to help Microsoft compete in the search front.
