Angry Guru Rant – Untapped Potential

February 5, 2010 Leave a comment

Did you hear the iPhone OS has an incredible amount of ‘untapped potential’ yet to be unleashed?

Really? I mean come on. Have you EVER had smoke blown up your ass before? Because I’m pretty sure it would feel a lot like that statement.

Wanna know what really has untapped potential? Try a keg. Maybe the preachers daughter down the street.

VS

I’m just saying an already released operating system isn’t untapped. It’s tapped and running at it’s full potential. End of story…or is it?

You see with almost any other company you’d say their OS was doing all that it can do, because well why would you hold back? What would there be to gain by stopping it from performing at 100%. Well a lot really. You see Apple has discovered the secret to the tech universe. It’s simply; “Don’t ever let ’em see you sweat.” It’s really a genious move on some levels.

So we now have an OS that never runs above 70% of maxium performance. This basically ensures the user is always happy with how it IS handling whatever application it’s running. All the while Apple can secretly keep that 30% for later use. It’s not untapped…it’s a buffer. It’s a buffer to keep you from seeing the dark under belly of this beast. Imagine if Honda built one engine for all the cars in the world while this crazy car company (pick one) built a 1.5L 4 banger for a 90lbs mini. Pretty sure everyone would talk how well the mini performed compared to the way a full-sized truck handled with the Windows Honda engine. It’s all about perception.

In short…untapped potential is a nice way of saying this device has a governor on it because performance would go out the window if an application tried to task it. So seriously let’s just save the term for talking about preachers daughters and over-rated college athletes who are struggling to make the news cycle without an anti-abortion TV ad during the Superbowl.

Sprint Gives Us an Update On Hero 2.1

January 29, 2010 Leave a comment

Sprint users have been hanging in there waiting for 2.1 while Droid and Nexus One users have been running around with the hottness for weeks (yes I know the Droid is 2.0 Vic, close enough). Well Sprint has released a statement to reassure us that everything is on track and testing is going well. Below is the quote.

“A while back we announced our plans to update our Android devices to 2.1 in the first half of 2010. I just wanted to follow up with a quick status. The 2.1 update is currently being tested and things are going very well so far. We’re still targeting the first half of 2010 and if things continue to go smoothly we should have the update well within that time frame. I’m sure there will be a lot of questions about procedures and more exact time-frames but for now I won’t be able to say much more. I just wanted you all to know that things are still on track.”
